What is SNI?

SNI stands for Suburban North Intergroup. SNI represents approximately 30 meeting groups in Lake County, Northern and Northwest Cook County, and McHenry County.

What is the purpose of SNI?

The primary purpose of this organization is to aid those with the problem of compulsive eating through the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous, guided by the Twelve Concepts of OA Service, and to serve and represent the OA groups from which the Intergroup is formed.

What is SNI’s mission statement?

“To welcome, inspire, strengthen and grow the OA fellowship.”

Who are the members of SNI?

Members include the following:

  • Intergroup Representatives (IRs), which consist of one (1) member from each group within our geographic area.
  • Intergroup Board (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and Corresponding Secretary).
  • Immediate past chair who serves as an ex-officio member of the SNI Board for one (1) year.
  • Group members not acting as IRs but elected or appointed to carry out specific duties – Committee Chairs, World Service Business Conference delegate/alternate, and region representative/alternate.
  • Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to participate in discussions.

When and where does SNI meet?

SNI holds monthly meetings on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 AM until 12 noon. All are welcome to attend.

What are the Standing Committees of SNI?

  • Bylaws Committee – Keep the Policy and Procedures Manual, SNI Bylaws and the Standing Rules pertinent and current.
  • Newsletter Committee – Provide OA members with pertinent information generated at the SNI meetings; educate the general OA population about service opportunities beyond the group level; and provide a forum for members to share their experience, strength, and hope.
  • Nominating Committee – Seek out qualified members who are willing to serve as SNI Officers, Region 5 Representatives/Alternates, and WSBC Delegates/Alternates.
  • Public Information/Professional Outreach (PI/PO) – Take such public information and professional outreach action as are appropriate or possible on an SNI basis rather than on a group level.
  • Twelfth Step Within Committee – Help carry the OA message of recovery to those who still suffer; deal with relapse and issues of membership retention, offering the message of hope; and encourage OA members to maintain recovery and prevent relapse.
  • Finance Committee – Prepare the annual budget for approval and oversee the use of funds and prudent reserve.
